About Katie’s Picture

So…I’ve got a lot of cookbooks. They’re in various places around the house. A bookshelf in the spare room, on the floor, opened on the ironing board, in a pile next to my bed, in a cupboard and on one counter in the kitchen. I decided it was time to consolidate so I pulled them all out of their individual homes and moved them in together on a nice 3 level bookshelf next to my fridge. They fit perfectly. It’s been so nice to have them all in one spot. I’m feeling inspired to try new recipes again. Once I made a resolution to cook one recipe from every cookbook in one year. It was so much fun and I had nearly 80 at that time. I’ve gotten a few more since. It might be time for round two.

About Sadie’s Picture

When I lived in Alaska I lived with this awesome chick, Kate. Ever since I moved down to Washington I have been trying to get her down from an adventure. She is a busy lady and as of yet has yet to make it to my state for a visit. This week though she finally managed to come for 3 days. We had a blast hanging out, watching movies, singing karaoke, drinking wine, hanging out in my hot tub, and seeing some sights in the area. It was a great to check that visit off the list, I just hope it happens again in the future.

About Katie’s Picture

My friend had to get his nose fixed after breaking it so many times over the years he could hardly breath. They didn’t straiten it, just lined it up inside. He was being put under so he needed a companion for the surgery. I took the day off work and took him to the hospital and sat around drinking the free juice boxes till he was done. Then, after picking up all his fancy prescriptions, I took him home and had to keep him company till he was safely out of danger from being put out or whatever complications come up after surgery. I was hoping he’d fall asleep so I could put fake tattoos on him to find later, but he didn’t sleep at all. He was loopy enough however that he let me draw mustaches on his bandages every time he changed it. That was fun. I had so much fun hanging out with a sick guy I wondered if maybe I should have been a nurse, or maybe just someone who hangs out with sick people eating taquitos and watching tv all day.
About Sadie’s Picture
The only other living thing in my apartment is my fish. He is a betta fish I have named Alpha, get it Alpha Beta? I am so clever. This little guy (he is little as you can barely see him in that tank) is kind of my best bud. He is always happy to see me when I walk by his tank, he even does this cute little dance in front of the glass. I am sure he only does this in anticipation of getting a tasty snack, but I pretend it is because he likes me. He makes a good companion. He never judges me when he I eat nothing but gummy bears for dinner and stay in my pjs all day.

Sundance Film Festival is always something new and exciting. It may be the same old Duc that I’ve known for 20 years and have been seeing films with for close to 10, but the films, the ideas, the energy…it’s always fresh at Sundance and you never know what to expect. I saw documentaries about TV in Bhutan, music for Alzheimer’s patients, and thought provoking comedies about suicide. I loved it.

About Sadie’s Picture

I LOVE tomato sauce made with fresh tomatoes. It is one of my favorite things ever. I usually can’t make fresh tomato sauce though, as tomatoes aren’t that cheap when your going to buy 20 pounds of them. I have done it a few times when I found them cheap at the end of season at the farmers market, or if I had a plentiful producing plant the few times I have grown tomatoes. This week our bountiful basket deal was 10 pounds of organic HEIRLOOM tomatoes for $12. I seriously did a happy happy joy joy dance. I got 2 cases. I will make them into sauce next week. It will probably be the best sauce I have ever made. I am STOKED!!
